ROPE ACCESS
Working at height / Difficult to access areas are now possible with our Rope Access experts available.
OVERVIEW
Rope Access
When non-destructive testing (NDT) has to be carried out at height or in difficult-to-reach locations, the priority is to give the inspection engineer safe access to the test area without compromising the accuracy of the inspection.
Industrial rope access allows trained technicians to reach areas that would otherwise require extensive scaffolding or access equipment.
The technician uses a secure rope system to descend, ascend or position themselves alongside the structure. Once safely positioned, they can carry out techniques such as:
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) – checking welds, structures and material thickness.
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) – detecting surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials.
Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT) – identifying surface-breaking cracks.
Visual Inspection (VT) – examining welds, components and structures.
Positive Material Identification (PMI) – confirming material composition where appropriate.
The NDT equipment is either carried by the technician or raised/lowered separately using suitable equipment.
APPLICATIONS
Steel structures
Storage tanks
Pipework
Bridges
Building structures
Large machinery
Where is Rope Access Used?
SAFETY
Safety comes first
For work at height, the method of access is part of the inspection planning.
Before starting, the team considers the height, location, structure, weather, access and egress, falling-object risks, equipment requirements and emergency arrangements.
