Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) is a widely used Non Destructive Testing method for detecting surface-breaking defects in non-porous materials.

OVERVIEW

What is Dye Penetrant Inspection?

Dye Penetrant Inspection is used to reveal surface-breaking defects such as cracks, laps, seams and other discontinuities in all non-porous materials. The method is simple, cost-effective and highly reliable when performed by qualified technicians.

The process involves applying a visible or fluorescent dye to the surface, allowing it to penetrate any surface-breaking defects, then removing excess dye and applying a developer to draw out the penetrant for clear indication.

HOW IT WORKS

The Process

Five-step fluorescent dye penetrant inspection process: pre-clean, apply penetrant, remove excess, apply developer, and inspect indications under white or UV-A light.
